Does Texas state require Drivers Ed for Over 18? The short answer to this question is YES, but it’s not really that simple. When you’re 16 and want to get your license all the steps of getting there are pretty straightforward, but when you’re over 18 it can get a little more confusing. Asking does the state of Texas require Drivers Ed for over 18 is a good question because you will still have to take an adult driver education course.

The Texas Adult Driving School course is a little different than the one for 15 and 16 year olds, but it is still approved statewide by the Texas Education Agency. This means that it covers all the important driver-related issues you will need as a licensed driver and you will still have to complete short review quizzes along the way.

GOOD News For Texans!
DPS: No more waiting in line for driver's license road test at DMV

HOUSTON, TEXAS (KPRC) - The state of Texas is making it faster for teens to get their driver's license and for Texans to get through the Department of Motor Vehicles.  Effective from Sep 02 2014

The Texas Department of Public Safety Monday will begin giving teens their driver's education road test without having to wait in line at the DMV. The first tests will be given at the DMV officers on Fry Road in Katy and on Fuqua in southeast Houston.

Testing will be given by an instructor who has been certified by DPS and should take less than 30 minutes. The new project is expected to expand to other locations.

Senate Bill 1705 from the last legislative session authorized the DPS to allow driver education schools to administer the driving skills test because of numerous complaints of long wait times and long lines at the driver license office.

You can log in and out and work on it in as many sessions as you like, allowing you to take breaks anytime. At the end of the adult Driver Ed course you will have to pass a final exam and you have 3 attempts to get it right. This final exam takes the place of the DPS written exam, so you won’t have to take it again.
