Defensive Driving Curriculum
Our Drivers Ed course contains videos that combine a proven Defensive Driving Course curriculum with actual behind-the-wheel driving. This allows teen drivers to gain import ant insight AND experience in potentially hazardous situations when facing a dangerous situation in the real world. Teaches the ability to manage speed, lane changes, turn signals, safe stopping distances, hazard recognition, crash reduction techniques, following directions and knowledge of the rules of the road, verbal instructions and numerous distractions. Where else can teens safely practice avoiding pedestrians that wander onto the roadway, or other drivers who fail to stop for red lights or at stop signs.
A word to Parents
Parents are the most important member of a new driver's instruction team. For teenagers, getting their drivers license is an exciting and defining moment, but for parents it's an emotionally challenging transition. The safety and security you have provided your children for many years is suddenly replaced by peer influence, risk and hours of worry. The more a parent is involved in their new driver's licensing process, the more at ease they become. Our drivers ed course educates both teens and parents on what they need to know regarding their teen driver's education.
It’s so important that parents to make sure teens get the advice and knowledge they need to be safe on the roads, and then carry those lessons through adulthood.”
Teen tragedies:
- Vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death of American teenagers, claiming nearly 3,000 lives each year*
- Crash rates are highest during a teen’s first few hundred miles on the road
- To combat these alarming statistics, we focus on key skills for safe driving
Tips on driving safety for new drivers and parents:
The majority (60%) of these crashes are attributed to inexperience in four key skills. Driving Skills for life provides instruction in these four main areas:
- Hazard Recognition: How to scan for trouble approaching intersections and safety zones.
- Vehicle Handling: Adjusting to a vehicle’s size and weight. Emergency braking techniques, and how acceleration, braking and turns affect vehicle balance. How to stay in contact with the road. Recovering from loss of control/slides in front- and rear-wheel drive vehicles.
- Speed Management/Space Management: Learning how to adjust speed to maintain space around, ahead and behind a vehicle. How to avoid being rear-ended.
- Distractions: Making smart decisions behind the wheel to limit distractions and stay focused on the task of driving.
This helps to reduce the number of traffic fatalities and injuries by teaching new drivers of all ages the skills needed to bring the experience gap.
